The world we live in can be a challenging place. With so much vying for our affections and attention, it's easy to get bogged down by the demands of life.
Social media is particularly problematic. It presents only the highlights of our lives, showing everyone the best parts. We rarely post about our moments of despair or vulnerability; instead, we curate a collection of fun, beauty, and our best selves. But this isn’t the full picture of life. While there are indeed moments of joy and excitement, the substance of life often lies in the mundane.
As Michael Foster aptly said, "Boringly normal biblical Christianity consistently applied to your mundane everyday life produces generational returns."
He’s absolutely right. Simply waking up each day and faithfully modeling a Gospel-centered life for your family is more than enough. Of course, you can enjoy vacations, fun trips, and dressing up. But don’t mistake a rock-star lifestyle for the ultimate goal. The real aim is to live a holy life.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
If you delight yourself in Jesus daily, your desires will begin to align with His will. That’s where God meets you and fulfills your desires—because they will now reflect His purposes. Too often, we pursue our own desires first and then ask God to bless our plans. But the better approach is to seek God first, ensuring that what we are doing aligns with His will and brings Him glory.
If we embraced this approach more often, we would likely find greater contentment and fewer distractions in life. I understand that it’s easier to talk about these things than to put them into practice, but the first step is to open your Bible, spend time alone with God, and ask for His guidance. Start with Proverbs and Psalms; these books are rich with wisdom. As you immerse yourself in God’s Word, wisdom will come, even if not immediately. Be faithful to stay rooted in Christ, diligent in studying His Word, and content with the ordinary. After all, 90% of life is ordinary. When you’re content with the mundane, the moments of extraordinary blessing from your Heavenly Father will be all the more remarkable.
Matthew 6:33 sums it up perfectly: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Life is better when we live this way.
